The two noted physicians and brothers, Antonio Martinez and Agustin Martinez made efforts to originate the dog breed. They made efforts to develop this breed via a selective breed program. They bred Dogo Argentino with other breeds, including Boxer, Irish Wolfhound, Great Dane, Bull Terrier, Spniahs Mistiff and Pyrenean Mastiff to refine specific characteristics. The brothers liked the athletic, powerful, and incredibly massive look of Dogo Argentino coupled with their affectionate and intelligent temperament.
